Food is NOT an Afterthought

Have you begun to implement some tips from last week’s blog?

  1. Have a Plan of the Day with food.
  2. Prepare for travel when it comes to food.
  3. Prepare for all-day sports events with food.

That may sound like a lot of planning, but it’s so worth it!

Today, I want to talk a little bit about how to plan for the upcoming summer months and the food challenges they will bring.

First of all, the summer experience itself is kind of an oxymoron because, while we all want to look great walking around in our swimsuits, we have a tendency to participate in various events and activities that work against our desire to look and feel our best.

Let me explain some more… Road trips, July 4th parties, long pool days, and so many other activities set the stage for some horrendous eating and drinking patterns that I’ve witnessed over the years.

So, this month’s blog posts are all about taking the time to prepare for your healthy food plan and all the benefits you will experience from your small time investment.

I’d like to give you some new ways to approach these fun times without falling off the wagon with your health commitment.

First of all, you are NOT the only one in your circle of friends who is seeking a healthier lifestyle, believe it or not.

I rarely meet someone who isn’t looking to improve his or her health, so having a simple conversation about the party food can be easy and serve all involved.

It’s as easy as this:

“Hey, Sarah, what do you think about creating a food plan for our July 4th party this year that’s healthier than we usually do?”

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying to have a boring party with just loads of vegetable trays.

There are plenty of ways to make Simple Switches (one of my patented approaches to food) and keep the food fun AND healthier. Everyone wins when the menu is reduced in sugar content, packaged and prepared foods, and soda.

Here is a sample party meal plan that’s both fun and healthy:

  • Grass-fed burgers, steaks, and/or chicken (lettuce wraps for those not eating buns)
  • Large mixed salad with lots of fun stuff in it (like blueberries, unsweetened coconut shreds, spicy pumpkin seeds, and/or jicama sticks)
  • Avocado chips
  • Corn chips (or Siete Grain Free Chips) and guacamole
  • Potato salad
  • Gluten-free macaroni salad (with lots of veggies)
  • Seltzer waters with flavored stevia and/or Zevia as a soda alternative
  • Iced tea (with stevia and lemon)
  • Baked sweet potatoes
  • Broccoli salad (lightly blanch the broccoli for optimal digestion) with a high-quality mayonnaise-like Primal Kitchen Mayo with
  • Avocado Oil
  • Bean, corn, tomato, and avocado salsa
  • Mixed fruit bowl
  • Avocado chocolate coconut milk mousse
  • Almond flour banana muffins

There are so many ways to create a healthier party environment with food. It does take some planning and prep work, but you will not regret it.

I give people blueprints for optimal health, and it all begins with the food you are putting in your body every day.

The food you eat is the primary dictator of your health, your longevity, and your quality of life, so it only makes sense that you put some time and effort into a solid health plan.

The results that people on my plan achieve after committing to these new ways of living life are just short of a miracle at times. I’ve seen clients get rid of migraine headaches, sinus infections, neuropathy, brain fog, eczema, and other skin disorders just by sticking to their food plan.

I promise you – if you are not investing in your health, you are either dealing with unnecessary symptoms and medications right now, or you are setting yourself up for a health crisis down the road – and it all begins with food.

Food is the ONE thing you can control in your life that has the biggest impact on your health and well-being.

Having a conversation about food creates an open environment to help support others in new ways.

Get those conversations rolling NOW about how you can plan for healthier celebrations with the people you love this summer.

Everyone will benefit from healthier food choices, and you can support each other in one of the few things that really matter – your health!
